Rediscover your Authentic Connection at Our Retreat

The work with the horses facilitated and held by Rachel, touched me very deeply; I have never felt so ‘seen’ on an emotional level which allowed genuine transformation. It is special work, and Rachel’s shamanic background and understanding allowed us to enter a unique space with her herd and fostered an authentic connection with them. I would wholeheartedly recommend her work.”

Equine Facilitated Therapy is an excellent method for establishing emotion regulation, and learning how to manage external and internal "triggers" to trauma which can make one feel unsafe. Here at Integrated Trauma Solutions we work with horses as an option within the first phase of treatment which is to create internal safety, stabilisation, emotional regulation and containment. Horses do not process trauma yet can teach people how to become stronger, clearer and more confident within themselves.
Horses have a much calmer energy, therefore just being in their presence helps us to find a calmer frequency within ourselves. It has been clinically documented that being in the presence of horses alters human brainwave patterns (Bradley T. Klontz et al,2007). Therefore, working with horses as agents for change is a gentle and indirect method for supporting people who have experienced complex lives.
Equine Facilitated Therapy and Learning offers the optimum environment to re connect with the 'real you' and to start a highly insightful journey towards recovery, restoration and integrating a new way of being.
Horses display similar social and responsive Behaviours to humans and are naturally empathic. Humans become more centred and focussed when in their company, enabling clients to develop a connection and begin forming the foundations of trust and good communication skills, as well as forming positive relationships and respecting boundaries
Healing With Horses (HWH) was originally established in 2013 by Rachel Fairhurst. Offering a unique and combined Equine Facilitated Therapy & Wellbeing centre, which offers an approach to wellness, personal development and authentic connection of the self. Rachel is a highly qualified and experienced practitioner who is dedicated to ongoing learning and training in order to provide cutting edge support, information and the opportunity for human development.
Using a combined application of multiple disciplines for Equine and Human behaviour change, we apply Equine Facilitated Therapy, Specialist psychological models for trauma and specific techniques which facilitate tangible change in equine and human behaviour. All disciplines are combined and applied uniquely to each individual or horse to achieve the most positive and long lasting outcomes.
Spending time in a natural environment has proven to be the perfect foundation for transforming difficult patterns and to begin a journey of recovery. Horses here live in a herd environment and learn to be horses again before we start to work on behaviour issues such as fear and aggression. This is also the perfect environment for people to learn how to be still inside, and undo what is no longer needed, while being inspired to resolve what is no longer helpful, restore what they have lost and re-integrate a new way of being.
Whether one is seeking a new way of being within their personal world or seeking to learn a new approach towards a business development opportunity, HWH can assist you in reaching the information needed for the specialised growth edge required for success. Developing a strategy for a new way of being is essential for the evolution of conciousness and for one to reach the desired goal.
Equine Facilitated Therapy is fast becoming the go to treatment for Social, Emotional and Behavioural problems. Although this approach is highly effective for ongoing and deep issues it is also highly beneficial for all aspects of human development. Healing With Horses offers a zone of safe space for personal development on all levels.

Humans and mamals share similar Limbic systems which means we have the same capacity for 'pair bonding, parenting behaviours and social and community bonds'. People say that they feel a lot calmer when they are with horses and feel more emotionally stable, and this is because we share a similar Limbic system (emotional brain). Horses and other mamals, such as dogs, are highly social beings and this has been the foundation for our lasting relationships with them. Horses are keenly aware of other peoples emotions and Limbic frequency, and, because they are social like us, they connect for reassurance and comfort.
Relying on each other in a heard for security and safety is reflective of what we do within families. The connection within a heard or family is needed for the correct functioning of the Limbic system (Emotional Brain). When a person has experienced abuse, trauma or isolation the Limbic brain becomes disfunctional, therefore spending time within a heard regenerates neural pathways bringing the Limbic system back into balance which helps to regulate emotions and build positive relationsips.
Rachel incorporates many disciplines within her approach to equine facilitated therapy, including psychotraumatology and various spiritual perspectives such as the principles of Kanyini from the Indigenous culture of Australia, and other cultural beliefs of connection and self balance. These different perspectives create a unique and insightful experience.
